Designing the Boys Room

Vicki discusses the use of fabric, color, and art used in this tweenage boy’s room.

• The textured wallpaper and paint add a contrast to the wall.
• The look was inspired by antique car accessories and a houndstooth pattern was used for the bedding .
• The room is anchored with black rich furniture.

Putting the Room Together

Vicki begins putting the different elements for the boy’s room in place.

• The bedding and furniture are put in place.
• Andy Nance , our drapery expert, saves the day and alters the drapes to fit the windows.
• Mattresses are placed on the frames.

Entertainment Knook

Sloan and Andy Nance discuss the finished draperies.

• Andy explains a simple solution to a common drapery snag.  If your rod-pocket is too small to fit your rod through simply let out the seam to allow room for your rod to go through.

• David Baltzersen, of Zobo TV, joins Sloan and shows us how he installed an arm for the television to be easily hung on the out cove wall.

Jack and Jill Bathroom

Sloan takes us through the design decision made for this room.

• A black and silver decorative wallpaper was a neutral choice for this bathroom.
• Adding coordinating towels and greenery really punched up this normally basic area.
• Adding decorative greenery in a bathroom can really spice things up, but stick to artificial plants to cut down on maintenance.

Word Art

Vicki spices up a bland wall with stick-on phase from Wallworks.

• Vinyl letters are a quick and non-permanent fix to add interest to a wall.  Mounting the words at a diagonal eliminate the risk of putting the words up crooked and add some flair. For quick removal use a hairdryer and they will peel right off.

Decorating Solutions

Sloan decorates a difficultly shaped area in the boy’s room.

• A red nightstand is used to accent the end of the thin out cove.
• Toy airplanes are used to accessorize the height of the space. Sloan uses thumbtacks and thread to hang the light weight airplanes form the ceiling.  By hanging the planes at different heights it breaks up the awkward size of the out cove.
