fb-2015.12.06I love real Christmas trees. My home always smells amazing when I have it up and memories of my childhood come rushing back. But keeping your tree looking alive and well throughout the holidays can be a little daunting a times. These tips will surely help keep your tree looking good right through the New Year. Enjoy!

Prepare the Base: Sawing off about half an inch to an inch of the base before you place it in your stand will prepare the tree for absorbing water. It’s like ringing a dinner bell and depending win what time you place your tree in the stand, you may have to fill it twice on one day.

Water Daily: This one seem most obvious, but you would be surprised how many people will let it fall by the wayside. Make it part of your daily routine for the month of December – it’s worth it!

Use Correct Lighting: Make sure all lights bear the UL mark of safety before stringing them around your tree. Remember all those stories about trees catching fire due to lights?

Unplug Lights: Always unplug your tree lights when you are sleeping or away from home for a longer than usual period of time. Through they may look fabulous, you don’t really want them on 24 hours a day.

Keep Away from Candles: Extinguish or move any candles that may be lit around the tree.

Keep Away from Heaters: Sometimes you can’t help it, but keeping your tree away from baseboards or heaters will prolong the life of your tree. It will dry up quicker than you thin, especially if you are heating your home more than usual.

Add Aspirin or Sugar to Tree Water: Add an aspirin tablet, Sprite, or a few pinches of sugar to the water. It may be an old wive’s tale, but many people say it does work.
