Have you read “Same Kind of Different as Me”? A New York Times best seller, book club favorite and now a movie.

A true story about a millionaire art dealer, this wife and the homeless man that changed their life.

Ron Hall the author, screenwriter and the producer of the movie is my cousin. It took him 8 years to bring this inspiring story to the big screen. It’s been amazing to follow his journey in so many ways. Two weeks ago, my husband, Jerry and I flew to Hollywood to attend the red-carpet premiere and party.

The movie was wonderful! It was a surreal experience to watch people that you know and love being played by famous actors. The cast includes Greg Kinnear as Ron, Renee Zellweger as Ron’s wife Debbie, Jon Voight played my Uncle Earl and Denver Moore was brilliantly portrayed by Djimon Housonu.

It touched me on so many different levels. The power of love, trust, friendship and faith. It also made me stop and think about how I could do more to support those around me.

The next week, I invited 24 of my friends to join me for a special showing of the movie here in Charlotte. Most had read the book but not all. After the movie, everyone came back to our house for wine, food and conversation. I couldn’t wait to hear what they thought of the movie. They all honestly loved it!

Me, I loved it even more the second time. The first time I think I was so anxious for Ron. I knew the love and work that had gone into writing his first book and getting it made into a movie. After all he’s just a guy from Haltom City, Texas. And here we were in Hollywood watching his life unfold on the big screen. I’m so proud of him.

I hope you will go see it and let me know what you think.
